The Commission Process

To commission a portrait, please get in touch to discuss your exact requirements.

I work with high quality, lightfast coloured pencils – mainly Faber Castell Polychromos, Derwent Lightfast and Caran D'Ache Luminance on archival Clairefontaine Pastelmat paper.

Photos

My style of drawing is detailed and realistic, so I need good quality clear photos to achieve the best possible portrait. The better the photo, the better the result. A digital copy is preferable, but if for some reason you only have a hard copy picture, I can use a photograph of this as reference.

Try to take your photos in natural light (a bright, but overcast day is perfect) and at eye level with your pet. Clear, sharp detail around the eyes and other facial features is essential to help me capture the unique character and spirit in my drawing.

If you’re local to me, I will come and meet the subject and take photographs, which is included in the portrait cost. If you live more than 30 miles away from Petersfield, there will be a fee for me to visit you and take pictures. Travel is charged at 45p per mile, plus a £75 fee if the journey time is over 90 mins each way.  You are welcome to keep a copy of all photos taken.

I can work from poor quality photos if absolutely necessary (for example, if the subject has passed away), but the resulting portrait may not be as detailed/ accurate.

Please note, if you already have a professional photograph of your pet that you would like me to work from, I must have written permission from the Photographer before starting work.

Payment

Once we’ve reviewed the photographs and confirmed exactly what you want, I’ll take a 30% non-refundable deposit to secure your booking in the diary, with balance due within 7 days of completion. Please do let me know if you require your commission to be completed by a certain date, i.e. for a Birthday gift, so that I can confirm whether or not the timing will be feasible.  Payment can be made via an online Bank transfer or PayPal.

Your quote is effective for 3 months from date of issue.

Please read my Terms & Conditions before confirming your order.

Progress

Once the portrait is underway, you have the choice to see progress pictures via email, so that you can review at each stage. Of course if you prefer, you can wait for the final reveal when work is complete.

I will also post progress images on my Instagram and Facebook feeds, unless otherwise requested by you.

Framing

Included in the price, is a 4cm wide, white or ivory acid free board mount, with a 45 degree angle cut window.  If you would prefer a wider, coloured or double mount, let me know and I'll give you a cost for having this made.

If you want me to frame the portrait for you, I can set it in a simple 1.6cm wide wooden frame.  Prices for my in-stock frames start from £35, depending on size. These come in Dark Wood, Pine, Black, White, Gold, Antique Gold, Grey or Silver.

Otherwise, a bespoke framing service starts from around £70.

(Note, payment must be paid in full before framing process commences)

Delivery

If you live within 30 miles of Petersfield (GU31), I am often able to deliver your portrait personally, or you are welcome to collect from me.  Otherwise, it will be securely packaged and delivered to you via Trans Global Express. UK courier delivery cost is included in the quoted prices. Cost for overseas delivery POA.
