Jackie - a very special infant

Jackie - a very special infant

£40.00

Little Jackie is a one year old baby from the Bulindi Chimpanzee community in western Uganda.

Jackie is her Mum Jemima’s second infant. Sadly, Jemima’s first baby who was named Kasatu died during an outbreak of flu among the chimps in 2018. Jemima had been a very young first-time mother – she was just 11 years old when she had Kasatu; perhaps because Jemima was still growing herself, little Kasatu was rather small and weak.

Jemima is an exceptionally protective and attentive mother, and her second baby Jackie is strong and healthy.

Little Jackie is particularly special to the Research team at the Bulindi Chimpanzee and Community Project.  She was named in loving memory of their Co-Director Jacqueline Rohen, who tragically passed away following a short illness in April 2020.
